The Congress will take place from the 2nd to the 4th of March at the Teacher’s Club in Dublin. The highlight will be the new Confucius Cup. Full details for the 2012 Irish Go Congress are available here.

Yes, it really is true. Ireland have finally won a game. Tonight we played Bulgaria, and we came out on top by 3 games to 1. Hopefully this will cement our position in 4th place. For the games records and scoretables, see Pandanet’s site.

Top 8 veterans Noel Mitchell and John Gibson were the first to resume play after the kick-off weekend. John took an early lead, but Noel pulled himself back in front to win by 12.5 points.

On Saturday, Roman and Colin played their game, after a thrilling struggle to find a clock. Roman emerged victorious, with a decisive invasion in the late endgame.

The Irish Championship League, affectionately known as the Top 8, kicked off in the plush surroundings of the Burlington Hotel in Dublin this weekend (thanks to Noel!). After a hard fought 4 rounds, the race for the top 2 places looks to be very much still open. In pole position on 3/4 are Roman, Colin and James. Noel, Justyna, and Ian lurk just behind on 2 wins.

2012 Ladder Tournament

This year’s edition of the Irish Ladder Tournament will be starting at the end of January. The ladder is the first qualification stage in the Irish Championship. If you wish to join the event, please email Ian Davis at sivadnai at gmail.com. Admittedly, it is possible to join the ladder later in the year, but bear in mind that you will then always start from the bottom if you do so. So it pays to join now! Everyone who wants to play must be a paid up member of the IGA.

Tonight Ireland advanced to 4th place in league C of the European team championships. We drew with. then league leaders, Italy. This is our third draw out of 4 now, and one day we might win a match.

NUI Galway Christmas Blitz

The NUIG Go Society had a lovely Christmas blitz just before the winter break. A plethora of people attended and there was merriment in abundance. We played on 9 by 9 boards with 5 minutes SD per side. Everybody played everybody and dare I say it, a good time was had by all. To see details of the event see report .

Top 8 Kick Off Weekend

With the new year, comes the new Irish championship. The Top 8 will be starting this month, along with the ladder. The kick off weekend will take place on the 14th and 15th of January at the Burlington Hotel. There should be some room for spectators.

11 Dec – Ulster Triumph in Interprovincials

For the past two years, Connaught have been the winners of the Interprovincial title. This year though, they failed to qualify, opening up the chance for a different winner. So it was then, that Ulster triumphed 2-1 over Leinster, to take their first title.
