UCC Tournament Date Announced

Welcome to our website. The Irish Go Association is the official organisation for promotion of the ancient oriental game of Go in Ireland. We are members of the European Go Federation and the International Go Federation, and organise numerous club and tournament events throughout the year. The IGA promotes awareness of the game including teaching sessions and providing public infomation. Please read further here for details of member benefits and our activities.

John Power, renowned author of Invincible, translator of Ishida’s joseki dictionary (among other classic go books) and former editor of Go World, is in Ireland for the next two weeks and expects to attend Collegians go club regularly while he’s here. Please come down and welcome him to Dublin, and enjoy a game and conversation with one of the english-speaking world’s most knowledgeable players - he managed to squeeze four games in last night so he’ll be hoping for some fresh competition this Monday.

The Belfast Tournament will now have 5 rounds after a series of grueling phone calls. It takes place at Belfast Boat Club on the 25th and 26th of September, you can play for just 1 day if you like.
The Top 4 placed players in the Ladder are Ian Davis, James Hutchinson, Wenzhi Liang and Paul Brennan. If you want to climb above them you only have a few months left!
The webpage for the Belfast Open is now available to view. The open will take place on the 25th and 26th of September. We are trying to get an extra round on Saturday evening, but for the moment we are a 4 round, Class B event.

We now have a translation of the rules of Go in Gaelic. The translation was made by Aonghus O’Lochlainn, our thanks to him.
After a good start in the competition, John had a bit of an unlucky draw in the closing rounds. He finished in 52nd place with 2 wins and a lot of SOS.

The 31st World Amateur Go Championship will be taking place in China this year. Ireland will be represented by the venerable John Gibson. You can follow the action via the ranka online magazine.

The first online Interprovincial Tournament has come to a finish. Leinster triumphed over Munster in a 2-0 victory this weekend. Perhaps Munster’s poor preparation was illustrated by one of their player’s forgetting to turn up to play.

The Cork Go Club has moved it’s weekly meetings to the Idle Hour pub on Albert Quay in the Cork docklands area. Meetings will occur every Tuesday night at 8:30pm. The venue is also used by the Cork Chess Club for blitz games so everyone can enjoy playing Go, Chess and Chinese Chess.
