Welcome to our website. The Irish Go Association is the official organisation for promotion of the ancient oriental game of Go in Ireland. We are members of the European Go Federation and the International Go Federation, and organise numerous club and tournament events throughout the year. The IGA promotes awareness of the game including teaching sessions and providing public infomation. Please read further here for details of member benefits and our activities.
There was a good showing at the AGM in Larry Murphy’s last night, with proceedings concluding in under 1 hour. Highlights included the election of one Rory Wales as President, the transition of the Treasury to Eoghan Barry, and the appearance of Justyna Kleczar on the committee. The full minutes of the meeting will appear in due course.
As already announced on the newsgroup, the AGM will take place this year on Wednesday 5th October, at Larry
Murphy’s at 8.30pm. As of now, the agenda is very short, so there should be plenty of time for amusement after the meeting. If you care about how Go is run in your country, please turn up!
UCC Go Club meetings will resume on the 22nd of September and will carry on every Thursday from 7-9PM in Boole 5 on the main campus of University College Cork.
The date and place of this year’s tournament in Cork have also been decided. The tournament will take place on the 19-20th November in the Electrical Engineering building, room L1. More details will follow shortly.
The 2011 Belfast Open took place again at Belfast Boat Club with a total of 23 players taking part. This continues the healthy trend of growing tournament attendance figures across the country. The winner was Andrew ‘Uberdude’ Simons, taking the title with a perfect score. Second place went to previous winner Matthew Crosby, while James Hutchinson salvaged some local pride with 3rd place. Winning 4/5 were Justyna Kleczar from the People’s Republic of Cork, and Marek Gutkowski from Dublin.

The first game of the Irish Final took place today, illustrating the slow pace of life North of the border. Ian, lost nigiri, but recovered to win against James by 13.5 points and 37 minutes.
As a reminder, if you want to play in the Irish Championship League, you need to qualify through the Ladder.
Regular meetings are back on in Cork city until the UCC club starts again in late September. Meetings will take place on Thursdays from 7:30pm. Contact stephan.curran@gmail.com for details.
This year’s Belfast Open will be a 5 round Class B event. It’s going to take place in the last weekend of August (27/28th), in the usual venue in South Belfast.

Cork’s Justyna Kleczar has won the 2011 Galway Open, this keeping the title in the hands of Poland. She brushed aside all opposition with a perfect 4/4. In second place came Rory Wales, with Colin MacSweeney shaving third on tiebreak.
Organisers Claas Roever and Rick Brennan can be very proud of the turnout, with 24 players in attendance. Full results are available.
Ireland lost another game in the Pandanet Team Championship tonight by 1-3. However, the pride of Cork, Rory Wales, managed to put a shine on an otherwise dark night as he crushed another dan player. This board point should see us hold on to 8th place, 1 above our seeding.
