TOP 8 – Week-end results

Posted by Philippe Renaut on January 29th, 2017

The TOP8 who will decide of the two finalists to become Irish Champion this year has started this week-end with the first four gmaes being played between the best 8 players of the ladder.
Two players couldn’t play one of the game and have only three games in.

The atmosphere was really great, the games extremely serious and ferocious from what I could see around and eveyrbody was deeply focus, leading to extremely tense situation. A lots of games ended with big dragons dying, lots of ko fights, and many last minute change of winners. Most of the players ended in byo-yomi – which shows the implication and reading involved during the games – leading the ING clock to bring a very epic soundtrack to the games…

The results stand as below at this stage…

Steve Flinter XXX 0 0 1 1 2
Claas Rover 1 XXX 0 1 0 2
Noel Mitchell 1 XXX 0 1 2
John Gibson XXX 0 0 0 1 1
Philippe Renaut 1 1 1 XXX 1 4
Michael Thai 0 1 1 XXX 0 2
Matei Garcia 0 1 0 1 XXX 2
Peter Kasko 0 0 0 XXX 0

Zhiqing Zhang wins Cork Go Tournament 2016

Posted by Philippe Renaut on December 6th, 2016

It was a cold Saturday morning, mist rolled over the plains as did the players to the Cricket Club.
Heated by tea and coffee, and fueled by sugary and fresh treats, the games started; 3 rounds of bloodshed on Saturday,  followed by 2 on Sunday.
It was an all Dublin podium; Zhiqing Zhang fought off all opposition with a perfect score to take the title, Arthur Cater scored an impressive second place, and Hao Wu pulled up in third positon. The Cork players licked their wounds and will be ready for the next bout.

James vs Philippe – Game 9

Posted by Philippe Renaut on November 18th, 2016

Still no comments about us finally stopping to post our games ? OK, I go on ;-)!

Strange game today, with a few bad moves in hte beginning by James and then suddenly a brilliant sequence that gave him a big early lead but unfortunately, byo-yomi was already on and Philippe managed to get back into the game by triggering a whole fight and finally capturing a big group.

As usual very enjoyable game (well at least for us)!
