Welcome to our website. The Irish Go Association is the official organisation for promotion of the ancient oriental game of Go in Ireland. We are members of the European Go Federation and the International Go Federation, and organise numerous club and tournament events throughout the year. The IGA promotes awareness of the game including teaching sessions and providing public infomation. Please read further here for details of member benefits and our activities.

The Irish Go Association’s AGM will take place this Saturday January 16th at 5pm in the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin, after the last round of the Top 8 tournament. The current agenda items are:

1. New venue for Dublin Go club.
2. Executive positions.

Carol Wins Irish Women’s Championship

The Irish Women’s Championship was been decided in a nail-bitingly close match between Carol Doyle and Michele Renaut over the weekend. In the end, Carol won out by just 6.5 points. Well done to all ladies who participated this year, and we look forward to rematches next year!

Registration Now Open for 2016 Irish Confucius Cup

Registration is now open for the 2016 Irish Confucius Cup occurring the weekend of March 4th-6th in the Gresham Hotel, Dublin. First prize for both the Go and Chinese Chess tournaments will be €1,000! Full details are available here.

Belfast tournament announced

There will be a one day tournament in Belfast on Saturday January 30th.

Location : Belfast Boat Club

30mn by player + 2x30s byoyomi
4 rounds
Handicap Swiss tournament

Registration : 9-9:15
First round : 9:30-11
Second round : 11-12:30
-lunch break-
Third round : 1:30-3
Fourth round : 3-4:30

The room is booked until 5pm, at which point we have to leave as there is another function on after that.

Philippe wins Irish championship

In the second game of the Irish championship, Philippe attempted a ninja star fuseki, and defeated James by half a point to claim the title.

2016 Irish Confucius Cup Date Announced

Ireland’s largest Go and Chinese Chess tournament, The Confucius Cup, will occur next year the weekend of March 4th-6th 2016. More details to follow soon.

Connaught win interprovincials

Connaught secured their third inter provincial title with a 2-1 victory over Ulster. Congratulations to them.

Tortoise and Hare tie in Correspondence Championship

The final game in the Open section of the Irish Correspondence Championship has ended. After many interesting games, the early pace was set by Philippe Renaut, but he was eventually joined at the top of the table by Irina Davis. Since there were no tiebreakers, they are this year’s joint winners, on 9 wins from 10 games. In a tie for third with 7 wins were Noel Mitchell, James Hutchinson, and Michael Plikk.

More Go Lessons with Fan Hui
