World Amateur Go Championship

The World Amateur Go Championship is approaching. The IGF’s online new channel, Ranka will be providing full coverage. Ireland are going to be represented by Colin MacSweeny this year, we wish him luck in his individua,l international debut, on the 11th of May. Ireland expects a podium finish.

30 May – James in Japan

James Hutchinson had an impressive run at the World Amateur Championship. He beat Denmark, Portugal, Argentina, and Brazil – finishing with 4 wins out of 8. This is a very creditable result, giving Ireland a position of 36th place in the competition. See IGF and Ranka reports

After a good start in the competition, John had a bit of an unlucky draw in the closing rounds. He finished in 52nd place with 2 wins and a lot of SOS. Full results table here.

21 May – General News

The 31st World Amateur Go Championship will be taking place in China this year. Ireland will be represented by the venerable John Gibson. You can follow the action via the ranka online magazine. Update – John won his first round game, see article for details.
