Top 8 Kick Off Weekend

With the new year, comes the new Irish championship. The Top 8 will be starting this month, along with the ladder. The kick off weekend will take place on the 14th and 15th of January at the Burlington Hotel. There should be some room for spectators.

Three more Top 8 games have taken place, Ian beating Colin and Eoghan on home ground at KGS, whilst Colin defeated Claas in Galway. Full results are available on the Top 8 page Meanwhile Tibi beat John in the first Ladder game of this year, earning revenge for his defeat in the Interprovincials.

Ireland’s finest Go players descended to the Burlington Hotel, where Noel had again secured us a room, to do battle. Once again Belfast players dominated the event, surviving the weekend unscathed; which in James case was down to unseemly consumption of tea. For full results see Top 8 page

Remember 6 months ago when the Top 8 finished and two players qualified for the final? Well today the first game in the final was actually played. It was a closely contested affair, and Ian Davis, playing black, pulled away in yose to win by 5.5 points against James Hutchinson.
